1200cc engine parts. i need a crank kit and a topend kit. i think it may have a broken rod because it will turn about a 1/2 a turn and stop. and it has a very solid feel when it quits moving. i have looked at j.c. whitney jbugs cip and marksbugbarn and havn't ben able to find anything

Mofoco in Wisconsin has a lot of old 40HP stuff kicking around. They sell "good used" stock cranks on eBay all of the time. (I bought one "just to have" a while back from them) They also sell rebuilt 40HP heads I've heard. You might give them a call:

Also, you might see if anyone around your area builds Formula Vee motors. Since Vee's have to use 1200's they are going to have the best information on where to find parts and they can usually do a lot of custom 40HP engine work for you if you need it, like case savers or cam bearing retrofits.
