| Wow, before cleaning off some of that snow, probably looked like a little hill of snow. Crazy! |

Awesome video! Loved the scenes where the Ghia and a beetle pull up to the checkpoint at the same time, the split window in traffic, and the Ghia slipping and sliding in the snow around the curve. And who can't enjoy the dump truck driver hooking the Ghia up to pull through the snow bank with just the perfect attachment?
Women dressed so classy back in the day!

it's not so much women back in the day... its more like European women dress well. Especially so for those in the more wealthy countries. You can see it today where they take pride in appearance.

Wouldn't it be the same as what Beetles used in the same years in the same countries? So Blaupunkt in Europe, Motorola in the US sort of thing? |

My area would be no problem but maybe would want a bumper of some kind on the back/front. But if all the lights work and glass is not cracked too badly should be fine with my cops. |

I'm quite shocked that they would be allowed over there too.
All that sharp rusty metal would make a pretty nasty mess of someone's limbs if they were unlucky to be hit by them.
Quite ironic too, when you think of what happened to the MGB's bumpers because of US safety law!
I remember back in the 70s and I had a 67 Baja bug with a roll cage in the back and chrome wheels, had an older couple look at me with a little distain in there voice and say "If that car was in Illinois where we are from, it would not be let on the road."
I am glad I live in the western USA where things are less stuffy, No car inspections and you can live more like you want ie. free, whether it is a Baja or a rusty car. who are people to judge  8) |

| I remember commenting on that car before...wouldn't be allowed on the road this side of the pond. I mean here in the UK or mainland Europe. |

Because of the roll cage? I don't think they were right, unless it was super rusty too. |

I'm currently in my mid 50s, and as long as I can remember there has never been any sort of vehicle safety inspection for passenger cars here in Illinois.
... trucks, yes - once upon a time you were required to take even non-commercially owned pickup trucks through the safety lane for a yearly inspection, but never passenger cars.
Sounds like that couple was just a pair of stuffed shirt snobs. :) |
