On our road trip last week in our new to us 1999 EV Winnebago camper I spotted what looked like a the back of a VW Bus. It was about 1 km ahead on the twisty section of Highway 3 between Hope and Princeton British Columbia.
The bus was moving along pretty good so I thought I’d chase it down. I’d keep getting glimpses of it. I got about a 1/4 mile from it when it turned off at a restaurant I got a couple pictures and kept going.
We stopped in Princeton for gas and just as were done and ready to leave. The 1967 Blue Split window Bus pulled in next to us.
I had to get out and talk with the owner (sorry to have forgotten his name). I said he must have a sweet 1500 cc engine to run that fast. His reply was it has 175 hp and something else that probably I have never seen before. I said I’ve been owning and working on VWs since 1964. He opened the drivers door and threw a switch and the body dropped to the concrete. Air Bags he was right I’ve never saw that on a bus before.
They were off to a car show in Penticton BC That weekend.
