I am having trouble finding this colour here in South Africa. have tried Spies Hecker catalogue and a few other paint manufactures and cannot seem to find it. I know this colour did not come as standard on Type1's but Type2's were produced in it.
I have only seen this colour in magazines and have not seen it on any vw's here. The colour varies in the photos in the magazine because the different angles the photos are taken, sunlight and ink toner.
Any suggestions as to how I could go about finding this colour? |

are there any places that can custom mix the paint for you, if you give them the paint code which is L 31 dove blue. |

There are places that can mix me just about any colour, provided I supply them with a sample. Since I dont have a sample colour, that is difficult to do. I can take the magazine to the paint matchers but like I said before the colour varies because of the various reasons. No-one seems to have the colour attached to a code reference L31, Dove Blue. |

hey man my car is dove blue L31 you can look in my gallery if that helps. the guy that painted my car used that code L31 to mix it with.not sure other than that , they should be able to get it. maybe try other places if there is. or try to call a paint place in the states and ask them there, might be other ways to get the color.maybe cross references or something |

There are some small inexpensive dove blue bits in the classifieds. Try buying one that is original then you have something to work with.
The color did change at least once during the prodution run so make sure that L31 is the one you want. |

do any paint suppliers over there carry ppg or glasurit? if they do, they will have the formula for L31. no conversions for newer dupont stuff, but i have a nason urethane formula very close to dove blue. |

i my car is dove blue,too. :bug_blue:
the paint shop mixed the formula to L 31 and it is pretty damn close to the original (paint was a little darker, but it was brand new paint job). i was parked next to a stock bus that was painted dove blue and it was really close( considering that the bus is 40 years plus and the paint has been in the sun  )
i gave them the PPG code too, i dont know if they used it

Wolfsburg West has color charts you could use. They refer us to Glasurit for more detailed information.

there is no dupont formula for l31 dove blue to convert to urethane paint. all you can do is use chromavision or have somebody mix it by eye. |

I wasn't thinking about single stage, my bad. I have not painted one of my t2s yet just the Porsche, which was base/clear. |
