Hi All,
Last week I had an 8 month old clutch cable snap. It broke roughly at where the bowden tube connects to the clutch cable tube. I did'nt take much notice of the floating sheath when I installed the cable.
I'm wondering what's its purpose, and what position should it be in when a new cable is installed ? Thanks Tony :D |

I believe it goes where the cable passes through the frame right behind the pedals up front. That's where it was on the old one I replaced earlier this year and it seemed to be sized to fit there well. |

most new cables have a floating sheath made of plastic, it's about 4 inches long and can slide along the cable so theoretically could be anywhere. the only purpose i can figure for it is that it has the manufacturer part number on it. old stock cables do not have the sheath and i am pretty sure it serves no purpose other than having the part number printed on it. |

I just replaced my 5 year old cable three weeks ago when the Clovis pin broke. Seemed like the right time to replace the whole thing. I had, and again did, place the sheath at the point where the cable comes through the frame and enters the tube. |
