I want to mount a Black plate cali on the from of my "new" 67 Type I but dont want to start drilling holes. I assume there is a bracket that you can use for this that want harm the bumper. Any suggestions? Can you tell I'm mechanical or what?

Yes

Just get a pair of these, then you can mount your license plate on the overrider bar:

Thanks! :D

I just installed the mounting kit on the overider bar. The clamps are loose and much larger in diameter than the overider bar, so it's not a snug fit. Is this the correct fit? There is aprrox a 1/4" play, seems like the clamps are to large. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Mine have been loose for decades- the plate just slides around on the over rider. You could get some automotive hose of about the right diameter, cut it to make a spacer.

Sounds like you have a cheap replacement bumper. The WW bumpers I used on my oval held the clamps perfectly

What is the dimension of your overrider bar?

I have no idea, I went to WW to buy a set of bumpers, and they showed me the difference in quality. If your bumper has a black grommet where the overrider meets the bumper, it is a cheapie

I bolted a piece of 1/8" by 3/4" metal between the two inner bumper brackets on the backside of the bumper and bolted the license plate to that. It sits below the bumper and also acts as feeler so I don't bang the lowered front end. I had to bend the bottom up a bit so it wouldn't always drag.

If you can go to an Ace Hardware Store you can find the clamps there that will fit around your overider bar. Should be a 1 1/4 size clamp. They are metal with a rubber sleeve on them. Mine fit tight on my bar.

They prev owner of my '66 had the insight to just drill 2 holes through the OG bumper to mount the plate  I just use the same 2 holes, they are there I might as well cover them up.

Gotta love those previous owners! You can still go with the straps and your plate should cover the holes. If you use the straps you can plug the holes with chrome caps or black plastic ones. You could even put bumper bolts in the holes and still look good.

All good ideas but what was correct for a 63? I have also seen mounting brackets for the front out there. Do I assume they were a dealer installed item and there is no real 'correct' way?

What does everyone do to mount to the blade style bumpers?

I'd really rather not drill through them.

They sell these in the electrical section of my autoparts store. All sorts of different sizes. I have a set in the package from back in the day. They where made for mounting VW bug license plates.
