Not a mention of Drager gauges yet.
Found this one the other day...anyone ever attempted to restore one?
The internals are amazing- I opened this one to free it up and it seems to work awesome now.
Anyway, a US model Drager, no date stamp.

Hi,
This is perhaps not the best thread to ask in, but I can`t find anything more suting either.
I`m after a set of gauges that looks vintage, like they belong in the car. The modern gauges for sale that I have seen are to modern in their design.
1) Does anyone sell gauges with a vintage look, resembeling the beetles original speedo?
2) Does anyone know where to get / have upgraded their modern instruments with new facing and a chrome ring? Does anyone have a vector file of it?
3) Can I use a Porsche 356 gauge with oil temp / pressure in the same gauge in a Beetle? I was thinking of using the Porsche senders (available?) but are the pressure mechanical? |

Here's a gauge I just picked up. Same size as a normal bus version, but with a different looking face. It's dated on the back as 10/54.

10/54 is really early for that style of gauge.
Does it have a Beetle or Ghia chrome ring or ? |

What's the difference between the rings? |

I don't know if there is a difference. Buses have a more curved ring to match the Bus dash but 10.54 would be too early for that in a Bus. |

I checked it against a bus gauge I have and the rings are quite different. The bus one is much smoother where this one has an extra rib.
There's also no vw markings on it so I'm guessing it's an early aftermarket vdo one. I'll have to email the guy I got it off to see if he has any other info on it. |

OK, got a really quick reply from the seller. He said it came out of a 54 truck his father wrecked about 30 years ago. It was in a small panel that had an amp gauge as well. |

I had that exact same gauge with that ring that was installed by the dealer in my old 55 vert. |

They look like these early Ghia gauges I have:
I did notice the 1/4 symbol is slight offset between your 54 and my 56/57 fuel gauges.
They were also used as accessories on Buses, typically ambulances. |

Picked up this NOS gauge off eBay. Couldn't find much information on this in the forums and gallery. Perhaps someone could identify this?

Some form of pressure gauge.... and not for an automobile unless you're running several superchargers and a few turbos in row  |

The following, are some electrical circuit wiring diagrams, pertaining to the possible arrangements of battery-charging circuits and my own approach to retro-fitting a remote-shunt ammeter and voltmeter, for monitoring purposes.
By using two or more, separate remote-shunts and a two-pole selector switch, one can use a single remote-shunt ammeter, to monitor the current flow in different parts of the electrical system; particularly to and from the battery (charging & discharging currents, and the total current supply to the vehicle's electrical loads.
The selector switch for the voltmeter, enables one to check direct voltage readings at the voltage regulator and at the forward end of the vehicle after any voltage drop in the main supply cable and connections.

Does there exist a small version, like the Moto-meter instruments, about 42mm, in both oil pressure and temperature?
Planning to fit them in the radio-aparture without cutting the dash |

Yes, that was the set I was thinking of. But did they also make a oil pressure gauge in the same size? What is the warning light in the set for, oil pressure like the stock idiot light? |

The warning light has no specific function. The instructions says:
"The signal light in the Rallye-Set may be used as controlling device for any purpose (for instance control of handbrake, halogen-lights or fog lights)."
Just checked the MotoMeter catalog, and there was no 40mm oil pressure gauge available at that time. |
