I have a dual port 1600cc endine with a vacuum advanced distributor that has been recalled. Does it really matter if I put a 009 distributor on? |

The last Bug I had (1976 Regular) I tried to beef it up a little..one of the things I did was to put in a 009 distributor. Wrong move. It would never idle right after that .... so I went back to a regular vac. type distibutor and it ran fine ...it did ok on the highway but around town driving really was a bummer with the 009. I think the 009 is probably designed for racing, Baja etc. I would stick with a vac. dist. if you are using the bug for regular transportation. |

look at this site under setting the timing www.haysvw.com. you have to set timing at 10 before TDC.with a mechanical distributor. With the original German carb, you can't get the idle right because it's designed to idle at 5 degrees after tdc. use a brazilian carb and it will work |

Depends on the carb - but if the car runs well with an SVDA, it will most likely run noticably worse with an 009. And some 009s are much worse than others. The drawbacks of 009s have been covered a lot - probably at least 1 or 2 posts weekly for quite a few years. I would stringly suggest replacing your SVDA with another SVDA.
The only car that I have that remotely likes an 009 is a stock 1200 with a 28 PICT1 carb. |
