Gonna sound a really simple question but does anyone know the correct valve clearance for a 1600 single port engine, i've been told varying from 0.1mm to 0.15mm

theres a little lee way
your engine prolly has .004 inches stamped on it
most ppl tend to go between .004 adn .006
i do .005, becuz i am not a decisive person
get someone to help you adjust them if you've never done it before, you'll learn fast
good luck |

Since no one mentioned it.
0.10 mm = .004"
0.15 mm = .006" |

actually,
.010mm = .00393"
.015mm = .00590"
not close enough for me.
get metric feeler gauges and be done with all this fake conversion junk. :) |

Yeah, obviously go metric if you have a German car but your math is off a bit. :) |

hmm, that's what the internet conversion table site that i used said.
maybe i shouldn't believe everything i read on the internet. :lol: |

From a 'significant figure' standpoint 0.010mm == .004" and .015mm == .006 ... if the feeler said .0060 or .0040 you would have a point to make but it doesn't. Plus, the 7 hundred thousandths or 1 ten thousandth difference in the .004" and .006" measurements are absolutely insignificant for this application. |

Where can I get a set of splash pan bolts with the 9mm head? |

and here i thought you were a perfectionist. i guess i was wrong. :wink:
(by the way, the one feeler gauge i have -as an emergency spare- has the following printed on it: .006" / .152mm) |

According to my conversion program:
0.15mm = 0.005905494 inch
.006 inch = 0.1524 mm
0.10mm = 0.003936996 inch
.004 inch = 0.1016 mm
and as far as being a perfectionist, I would be more of a perfectionist holding true to the significant figure issue than to try and measure something to an illogical tolerance. |

my valves thank me every time i adjust them metrically. :D
they get sad if i have to use american conversions. :( they complain like "what the hell are you doing to us? that's not how we like it? darnit, where are those Hazet feeler gauges, they feel so nice."
so next time i have to adjust them, maybe you'd like to feel the wrath and hear the scorn of my unhappy valves? :shock:
i didn't think so.
:lol: |
