I've seen this van in person a couple times and this is a very fair deal. The seller is a pro mechanic and you'd probably be getting a pretty good running and unique LT.

not sure if it's a nice van but it may be a good deal for a entry level aircooled westy
not sure what/why they have a lower grill though.. the engine compartment pic shows the 2.0l gasser.

Originally a water cooled diesel. this needs a ton of work and does not run. did the mice eat the AFM? |

https://richmond.craigslist.org/bar/d/petersburg-1986-vw-4x4-syncro-van-all/7049918569.html
Quote: This is a rare sought after, 4X4, all wheel drive volkswagen Vanagon. Only 5k were imported to the US. They are mostly used in Europe and in the middle east. Excellent interior. Exterior has a a few blemishes. Power steering and brakes. Good heat and AC. Water cooler 4 cylinder engine. 4 speed transmission with an extra gear for low.
Before you go any further check out syncro van on YouTube. Also Google NADA and look up the value of these machines. I will consider all offers, trades, and part trade and or any combination of things. Lets barter. I will accept $14k for an all cash offer. TEXT ONLY

All over the place, but especially in LA and SF.
I’m considering these:
https://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/cto/d/north-hollywood-1990-volkswagen-vanagon/7059739021.html
A little on the plain Jane side but very nice overall and at a good price.
https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/cto/d/campbell-87-vw-vanagon-gl-wolfsburg-tin/7046456061.html
This one’s only negative is the ripped seat cover, otherwise I can’t see any other negatives.
https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto/d/richmond-1990-vanagon-carat-for-sale/7063537955.html
Big dent on DS panel, rebuilt engine, and looks great everywhere else.

A bit of very minor rust on the window frames on this one. Rebuilt engine.
Which would you choose? I’m leaning toward the one in Campbell. |

It's not minor. There is a hole in the windshield frame. If you know how to weld and know how to install a windshield it's not too bad. If you have to pay someone to fix it well, that's a different story.
Don't choose based on listings, go see each one. |

Thanks for the reply old man!
I’m not seeing the hole. Where do you see that?
I have installed new window seals on all the windows of my Westy but never welded before. I’m sure I can do it if I bought the equipment.
In any case, this is probably the last that I’m considering Because of the rust. I am not confident in remediating rust so i avoid vans with it.
I texted and emailed the owners for the one in Campbell and Richmond today so I’m hoping to see them today.
What to do you think about the other 3? |

Wow, that looks like a killer deal! I bought mine for $7300 in Nov ‘06, prior to the market shooting up. Looks like that era’s pricing, so I’d say jump on it if it checks out. |

You will have to deal will some rust. If its not too far go take a look and take detailed photos and check under the body and the engine bay. Mold on the pop top. Water might be getting inside somewhere. |
