I recently purchased a Magnum GT. It's very similar to the Kelmark GT but with more detailing and a floor section that is integral to the body.
I am having trouble finding any info on this replica. My interior is gutted and I would like to see how they were detailed.
Any leads on this replica are much appreciated!!
Thanks,
Tom |

Wondering if you still have the Magnum GT? I can probably get all the info that you need.

4 year old post. Doubt if you will get a replay.
But, the poster is still active on The Samba. |

I'd be interested in any information you have to share on the Magnum GT. Almost non-existant on the 'net, very little information on them I've been able to come across.
To me, one of the best variations of the Dino styled replica's ever made (in the US that is).

Always liked this kit, never got around to buying one though. It was mainly sold for use with a VW donor, although an aftermarket round-tube chassis for a General Motors FWD V6 drivetrain was available. (I think it was manufactured by a company called "Cargem", it was *not* the same as the Kelmark, Manta Montage T or Amante chassis)
There was an article in a Petersen Publishing kit car book circa 1979 about an identical car called an "Eagle", that ended up becoming the Magnum later on after the maker of the Eagle body kit for the Porsche 914 complained about it. Then Dodge cried foul about the use of their (heavily protected) Magnum trademark circa 1985, despite the fact that the Dodge Magnum XE ceased production six years earlier. I think Enzo Ferrari also complained about the Eagle/Magnum and ordered the molds destroyed shortly before he died. (I have heard the same story about the Kelmark molds and the Fiero-based Mera kit car molds, not sure if that is true).
Edit: To the OP, if you're still interested, a dash and shifter gate intended for a Datsun 240Z-based 250GTO replica, a wood steering wheel with three narrow, slotted spokes, MGB or Triumph seats, and early Jaguar XJ6 gauges will look authentic to the look of a Ferrari Dino. Unfortunately, I have no pictures of an original Magnum GT interior. I believe the mold was taken off a real Ferrari Dino 246GTS, but the targa top and a few other details were omitted or changed. |

I have a 1970 Magnum GT Ferrari Dino Replica.
It has a Mazda Rotary motor
I would love any info anyone has on this kit car.
My man has been working on this car non stop for almost a month now.
We got it from a friend and it had been sitting for about 3 or 4 yrs under a tarp.... so first thing was gutting it out, then he has pretty much rebuilt the whole car.
I will post pictures in next couple days.
It is For Sale!!! |

I know the original owner of the company and the molds still exist. It's been awhile but I believe he still has a warehouse filled with new replacement parts. If you need to get a hold of him message me and I can provide his info. The parts are in eastern South Dakota. |

The website :
http://kelmarkgt.freeforums.org/index.php?sid=e4e7633deffa59ea8191b418374206fd
is a forum for Kelmark, Karma GT and Magnum GT owners.
This thread addresses the relationship between Karmas and Kelmarks:
http://kelmarkgt.freeforums.org/kelmark-vs-karma-styling-t629-20.html
Pictures of a Kelmark side by side with a Karma GT are on page one of that thread (here):
http://kelmarkgt.freeforums.org/kelmark-vs-karma-styling-t629.html
- Kelmarks came first (1975) made by Russ Keller and Randy Markham.
- The first Karma was created by Barry Goldstein (Lakewood Blvd., Bellflower, California) from a perfectly good, one year old Kelmark in late 1980 ; In 1981, he adapted his molds to create a Dino-styled car based on a 914 (the Eagle GT) :
http://eaglegt.com/
- In 1982, Joe Fierro adapted the Karma to use Pinto doors and windshield to create his Fierro car :

Magnums were built from Karma molds (which were supposedly modified by Lyle Mader of South Dakota) after Karma, Eagle GT and Barry Goldstein went AWOL.
Magnums, however, were not VW-based. They had tubular steel frames and most were mid-engine Mazda rotaries - they are by far the best of the bunch but all these cars were based on the Kelmark GT *.
(* Which was born from a Doctor-owned, borrowed '72 Dino GT in Lansing, Michigan in 1974.) |

kylin,
What are the plans with all of the molds and parts? Any potential for the car to go back into production? |

Ya we are going to build the ones we can with the left over parts
then we have abunch of shells and we are going to make a new chassis for it so it can have some modern suspension and then also make it so it can hold a few different engines such as the ls series and a built rotary we will also be modernizing the inside and might so some slight tweekING to the mold but ya I mean we have the mold we can make as many as we really want |

Kylin,
My company actually owns the rights to the magnum gt. The rights were purchased from Lyle Mader in 2008. If you could pm me i would really like to discuss this with you further. |

Same as me but the real question is how is we have all original documents and we had our attorneys do the paper work Mr mader sold all the righrs and everything to a older gentlemen because he could not afford the rent so they swapped straight up but if you do have the rights by all means I would like to see the paper work and some legal documents. And also just a quick question if you have the rights to them were are the cars a city and state Will do with were thethey are stored |

Sorry I'm a new user. The system will not let me pm for 24 hours. I will contact you tomorrow with my phone number so we can discuss this a little further. I just cant believe that Lyle would sell the production rights to two people we have done business for over twenty years. |
