http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1777982 wow thanks buddy. Though I have a set of mickey's Sprintstars stored in the attic. I just need sometime to search for them. iit's quite difficult to open those boxes in the attic because it is time consuming. But this weekend I'll look for them. I will also install kadron dual cards this weekend. Thanks again buddy. |

I recently overhauled the engine of Mickey and it proved that the engine had about two loose lower head studs that was causing some unexplained noise. Luckily, the engine was still in good shape. I also installed a vintage Kadron Dual Carbs. With some application of flat black paint ont he engine tins, it looks neat and clean. Mickey has a 1776 cc engine.
But I was thinking of using the bigger one for extra oil capacity.
This was the NOS Fram Filter that I just opened.
After opening the NOS Fram Filter, a NOS instructional manual appeared.
These are the fittings I bought from a nearby hydraulic machine shop.
The small hole on the base of the alternator stand is utilized for the return of the filtered oil to the engine from the Fram.
I painted the Kadron's air cleaners to give them a fresh look.
This is the fuel line that I made. I patterned it from the original fuel line of Kardon to give it a vintage appeal.
After fabricating the brackets, I applied some paint.
I also used this vintage fuel filter for the engine to have a vintage style.
The junction of the fuel line on a closer look.
I also installed an external NOS Fram oil filter. At first I used my extra small canister.
But, later on, I installed this bigger Fram Filter. So also, the hose I first bought were old and they blew off. Hence, I went to the hydraulic machine shop and asked then to make me a new steel braided high-pressure hoses that worked pretty well.
But, then again, after using the small Fram Filter, I tried using the bigger fram filter for extra oil capacity and still checking it if it works well. So far so good, the bigger Fram works perfectly and I am opting to have it permanently installed with some new brackets to be made later on.
Question: Can someone please give me an idea what is the correct venturi, main jet and idle jet for the Kadron on a 1776 cc engine.
Your responses will be much appreciated.
Thanks,

Looks like Mickey has been getting love.
Here are several threads on jetting a 1776 with Kadrons...

Thanks so much c2darrel, I really appreciated your sharing the link. I checked the links you gave and there are several listed topics to choose from. So far the discussions on these threads somehow creates more confusions rather than confirmations. I haven't really got the specifics to that one.
Have a great day!

yeah, thats why i just posted the link. I have run 3 different 1776 motors with Kadrons over the last 30 years or so...I ran them straight out of the box with the jets that came in them.
They always ran great and w/o issues. :) |

Yeah! Again, thanks for the help, much appreciated. So far, the Kads I bought are used once and they idle fine for me, but once I rev the engine, the smoke would be from color grey to dark grey, which only suggest that its mixture is rich. Before we rebuilt the engine, the piston rings of the 90.5 Cima piston were perfect. So the smoke is not burnt oil, but unburned gas. I was thinking if the mixture screw as dialled accordingly. Much is yet to be done, Mate!
Thanks,

I recenctly got a set of og fuchs with 6-inch wide. The offset is quite perpect for me. I also borrowed a set of adaptors from 4-lug to porsche 5-lug pattern. It turned out that using these adaptors will only leave rubbing issues. Hence, it will no longer be installed. As such, the remedy is to have the rear drums and front rotors be drilled to 5-lug porsche pattern. The only issue left lingering at the back ofy mind is, with the 6-inch wide fuchs, that size of tires would suit the rear suspensions taking into consideration the fender arch of the karmann ghia towards the rear where the bumper resides. I am really a fan of cal look big and little tires combo. Any inputs on this will be highly appreciated and any pics of 1967 kg's with 6-inch fuchs with the designated rear tire sizes will also enlighten this representation. I will post the pics of the fuchs soon. Thanks in advanve.

Hey DongKG, welcome back. A few thoughts for you and the Fuchs. There are early 6's (deep 6, 901 part # on back) and late 6's (flat 6, 911 part # on back).
A 67 has a long spline swing axle. Read up on that here.
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=330991&highlight=short+axle+long
depending on if you have original early or late 6 inch or repop Fuchs the answer may change. On my 68, I swapped to 60-66 short axles, I have SwayAway adjustable spring plates, I have drilled rotors and drums, I have a 1/4 spacer on the rear drums. I have 195/60/15 tires in back. OG deep 6 Fuchs in back. No rub. I'm planning on dumping the adjustable spring plates and get lowered plates, dump the spacer and I can fit a 205/70/15. Note that all ghias may have different rear clearance due to handmade and decades of potential repairs. |

Thanks for the reply. It is much appreciated. Based on my research the fuchs are the flat dish late 6-inch wide. Will tires with 165×15 size fits without any rubbing issues! 205×60×15 might be wishful thinking. Thanks in advance. |

This is the other japan early replica with edge like portion of the rim that i intend to have it refaced to replicate the OG fuchs. |

This sounds seriously cool. Cant wait to see.
I'm not much of a tire expert, I would make sure a 165 is not too narrow for a 6 in rim. Seems reasonable, but search. Cheers DongKG |

Well, I will correct myself there. it will only be the rim (not the spokes), that will have to be refaced to just to remove the sharp edges or of the rim area. I just hope the 165xx15 fits without any issues at all.
Thanks. |

About a month ago I fabricated a breather box with the help of an expert welder.
Measuring the stainless steel sheets for the buffers and provisions for the ports.
welding the buffer using a TIG welder.
Welding the ports for the hose. I opted to install six ports, Two for the valve covers; 2 for the dual carbs aircleaner; one for the oil breather beside the oil filler; and one as breather.
Some filing touches.
Installing the finished breather box. |

I also fabricated an oil cooler in a vintage speed theme.
The tube that will be used to mimic the okrasa style oil cooler.
A little of twisting and all, there you have it, a spiral-like tubing.
I welded the swivel elbow fittings for the braided hose.
A view from the outside looking into the back of the engine with the spiral tubing hidden from the prying eyes.
the hose on the left is coming from the Fram canister oil filter and the hose on the right is where the cooled oil passes back to the engine.
The return. It is quite awesome because once the engine is in its normal operating temperature, touching the tubing on the right reveals that the oils is hotter and when you touch the tube on the right it is immediately noticeable how the temperature dropped dramatically. It work! |

After removing the rear drums and the front rotors it was time to have these re-drilled to Porsche 5x130 bcd bolt pattern.
The finished re-drilled drums and rotors.
I also installed the tires onto the Fuchs from the Sprintstars EMPI. The latter wheels will have to be stored in our attic for a long long time, I may say.
After installing back the rear drums and the front rotors, I applied a few coats of flat back to give a fresh look.
The Fuchs with the 165x15 tire was looking so tight on the left side....
.... also the same tight fit on the right side. I can't imagine how close the tires are to the leading edges of both rear fenders near the both ends of the bumpers.
The rear shot of the Fuchs already installed. So tight by mere looking at it!
The front view with the Fuchs and tire looks so relaxed and with ease.
Since, I like the Vintage Speed Classic look, I also removed the Bosch 009.....
.... and installed this Bosch 010 dizzy! I love the 010 vintage look blended with the entire engine. I looks so vintage. And the Bosch 101 works well too.
I drove the Mickey to test the engine with its dual Kadrons and the Fuchs and to determine whether there are issues that needs to be addressed.
I also photoshopped the picture. I hope I did not over do the saturation of the colors. Another view.
One more view.
Another one.
This one too.
And one more.
I like the overall look of the Fuchs with Mickey.
So far, no issues with my fear of rubber rubbing the fenders at the back. Though I have some issues on the Kardons as the smokes is color black when I apply some gas. I know that it supplies more gas then needed by the engine. I will see the jettings of the Kadrons this weekend.
And one more thing, I don't have yet the Fuchs center caps. Soon of course!
Thanks. |

Lastly, I have this original universal EMPI GTV style steering wheel that I have been keeping these years that I retrieved recently. I got a fabricated boss kit with the horn bottom and installed in on Mickey.
HHuuummm looks cool, IMO!
I will apply descent varnish on the classic and aged Mahogany wood soon! |

Nice work on Mickey.
I wouldn't use varnish on your steering wheel. Sand it down to 400 or 600 and just rub some boiled linseed oil on it with a towel. wait a bit and rub it out, done. I think you will like it more and it lasts a long time. If needed rub more on every couple years. |
