I would like to know if you have ideas on how to brace the front end on my buggy to keep my gas tank off my front end. i put a hole in it from it hitting my front end . :cry:

What type of car do you have, is it a sand rail or baja bug? Maybe you have some pictures, for a better understanding of what it is you are looking for. Thanks, Randy

sorry i forgot to say it is a manx style buggy. i'm looking for some kind of support in the front . under the fiber glass body to lift the tank up.

The original manxs had simple brackets that were bolted to the two body attachment points which are on top of the front beam. They attached to the front of the buggy near the tank.

You can see the two holes here:

You can just see them in this pic. They are silver and just beyond the lower u-joint. Sorry I don't have a better picture.

I bent a "Z" shaped bracket out of flat bar. Bolted it to the two existing holes on top of the front beam and the underside of the body.

There are rubber squares that sandwich the bottom of the Z bracket which allow some movement between the suspension and the body, which are good to use.

The bolt that goes through the top of the Z bracket and the body, should also go through the tab that holds down the front of the tank.

Just a thought when I bought my gas tank they had 2 sizes. I cant remember the exact gallons but I got the smaller one in fear of having the problem you are having with the larger one.

I think it was 13 galon what I got and 18 gallon for the bigger one some thing like that .

Original 58-67 tanks have the best chance of fitting under the hood.

61 to 67 tanks actually. 61 tanks don't have the hole in the top of the tank for the fuel sending unit, but are identical in every other way. 56-60 tanks are called the humpback tanks and won't fit at all.
