I posted some pics of mine in the my gallery. I just cant seem to get them to attach to the post???

GreggK Sat Apr 19, 2014 11:31 pm

this is my old dash
I picked up a dash from the junkyard and had it coated
Place the base as close to that top edge in the pic for max clearance between pod and windshield also for adjustment of pod.Drilled holes in rear of pod for wires and placed grommet Same for dashMade cut out for wires to pass down. Protect windshield from sparks when you cut
I made disconnects accessible from ash tray. Makes easier for future dash removal. I only installed volt meter and water temp. Measured out for three. Oil pressure will come later.Ive got to take some more pics, ran out of batteries that day.

I figured out how to do the pics to post.

I was able to install 3 of the smaller 1 5/8" diameter gauges in the center heater vent cover, kind of bright with white face and silver bezel in the daytime but at night the backlighting matches the LED lighting color of the rest of dash gauges

I'd like to install a aftermarket water temperature gauge in a I 5 Eurovan.
Where to mount the sender/sensor in the cooling system?
thanks
hank

Da TOW'D Sun May 04, 2014 9:23 pm

'92 Eurovan 5 cyl. automatic
dash mounted
water temperature (not hooked up I'd like to know where to hook up the temperature sensor)
oil pressure ( amazing oil pressure in this engine)
Vacuum Gauge( crusin' @10 inches Hg)

mounted by heater knobs
Automatic Transmission Pressure gauge(usually around 50 psi)
cigarette lighter voltmeter

glovebox out to service the cruise control

I wanted to minimize alteration of the dash, so this is just two small screws into the defroster vent plastic. But, I don't know how it will affect the defroster, and note: the wing window can only be opened by opening the door first! Not a big deal, but I do love the wing windows.

The housing is from NAPA. There's some parallax from looking at the gauge from an angle, but that's likely at many locations.

I just have the basics installed........

I usually run with a Garmin Nuvi on the dash next to the instrument binnacle.

The Oil Pressure Gauge is the one that I watch the most.

These gauges are held in place by 3/4 inch rare earth magnets, no drilling, great wiring access, wires are led under the leading edge of the instrument cluster binnacle. I would hate to have access to my vent window blocked too. The magnets are attached to the base of the gauge pods with 2 side tape. Perfect heads up position. Ran this way all last winter and the defrost system keep things clear.

Test fitting a Perrin dual universal gauge pod...

So far the plan is to mount the Perrin base to the top of the steering column cover and adjust/rotate the pod "ears" so that they don't interfere with the turn signal and wiper levers.

This is a dry run so the gauges will be rotated in the final install so that the displays are nice and level. I wanted an install that required no permanent modifications to my dash ie holes drilled etc. With this setup... If I ever want to remove the pod/gauges in order to relocate them I can always just replace the top plastic column cover and it's like the gauges were never there.

Something a PO installed, any one know if this is store bought or homemade? It has no markings/name on it.

It certainly is stout looking!

Nice that he used the ashtray hole utilizing some sort of clamping plate under tge dash.

Much better than poking holes in a padded dash cover.

I'd wager on home made, shaped rather square and utilitarian, store purchased items tend to be more round and soft looking.
Nice welding skills though!

Looks well made and functional, but if that was in my van, I wouldn't be able to help help thinking that Johnny 5 or Wall-E was staring at me all the time.
