Hello All, Just received my 54's birth certificate and have a few questions. The first is the unidentified m codes they are 010, 050, 083, and 116. My car also came with m 018 "larger reflector in brake/indicator light," I assume this is the snowflake style taillight? The problem with this is at some point the car was repainted and you clearly see were the hearts or eggs were mounted with the original paint underneth. My Upolstery is listed as red leatherette.Well the seat Upolstery is long gone but the door panals look original and the are green fabric with smooth green vinyl. It does not seem like much of my car is adding up to the birth certificate has any one else had this problem |

M 050 = Dual circuit brake warning light
Also, M 018 "Large reflector in brake/indicator light" was used on Swedish- market cars only |

I realize this post is a little old - sorry about that. Anyways, I've been a lurker on here for a while and I just got the birth certificate for my early '55 and I have the M 018 code listed on mine as well but it says "Information not available" next to it, where the description should be. My car was originally shipped to Ontario. Anyone shed any light on what this code is?
Thanks! |

a thought about the interior, i have heard it said by someone over here in australia that they sometimes used to swap interiors between cars in the dealership that he worked. this was so they could sell a car with a specific combo without having to order one in and potentialy lose the sale. (this was 50's era). |

Hi,
I have my birth certificate in hands, it is for a 113 VW De Luxe Sedan, Destination Country: Portugal .. and the Extras has
M 018 Larger reflector in brake / indicator light
M 094 Lockable rear flap handle
M 104 Upholstery leatherette Red
So, my car isn't Swedish at all, isn't time to check which is/are the exactly "market" for M18 ?
Also, does anyone have a picture from M18 ? Or tell me what exactly is that?
Thanks |

Still never got an answer here

I still think there was an early (54? thru 55) extra low snowflake tail light fender.
Here are the swedish lights.
Are there any survivor 54-early 55 swiss cars with these lights?
EDIT: forgot to include the link to my previous post |

Different M code M-918 (cannot be identified), 1954 convertible, delivered to Wiesbaden, Germany. Any clues? One thing I noticed on this car is that there is no "MADE IN WESTERN GERMANY" badge, and no holes for one! |

On my BC it has the same code...M 018. But my car was bound for Riviera Motors Ltd. in San Francisco... :? Definitely need to see one of these in a photo..Someone with an untouched 1953 - Early 55 with Heart Tail Lights or Egg Style.. Just curious.. It cant be a reflector that mounts to the bumper arm, cause the description states " Larger Reflector "IN" Brake/Indicator Light...
The rest of the M Codes under "Cannot Be Indentified" on my BC:
M 010 - Unknown: Seen on Cabriolets & Sedans
M 050 - Dual Circuit Brake Warning Light
M 083 - Not on TheSamba List
M 104 - Upholstery Leatherette True Red
M 116 - Not on TheSamba List |

I don't know about the code, but I read somewhere that cars for domestic destinations didn't have the "MADE IN WESTERN GERMANY" tag. |

When I asked this question in the BC thread, I was told that my car (Oct '54 - USA bound) would have had Egg style lights based on the 'larger' code. |

The two cars I posted here, with the "reflectors" are Swedish. So, I think it is possible to be what he are looking for M 018
And so, we have cars going to Portugal, USA, Canada, even Germany. So looks like it is not only Swedish. Am I wrong ?

BTW. I am pretty sure M18 is not related to tail-lights at all. in 54 there were no cars using snowflakes, but we can see M18 in 54 and 57, so two differet taillights. pretty sure it is the reflectors attached to the bumpers. |

I was thinking that there are a couple of versions of the same size lights out there.
M018 for 54-55 would be the egg light (replacing heart assy)
M018 for 55-57 would be the "chevron" reflector for the snowflake housing. (replacing "snowflake" lens)
M018 for swedish market, lens on right (also replacing "snowflake" lens)
The reflector design looks very similar in both the egg and the nordic lenses and both are made of plastic. Coincidence??
Here are a few threads where it came up before.

This is my opinion, but sure make sense for the original semaphore cars with eggs and the exsistance of the chevron lens for the later ovals |

m018 states Larger reflector in brake / indicator light
didnt splits have the brake light in the nose cone and the indicators being the semaphores? I thought the fender lights on splits were just running lights. |
