View original topic: Rough running Ghia, ideas needed

Well, here goes. I shot a plug out of my hither to very smooth running '74 Ghia last week and so decided to replace the heads as it is my daily driver and I want it to be reliable. I replaced the heads with new ones with "Auto Linea" stamped on them, guess they come from Brazil. I put the engine back in and now it idles very rough. I have not noticed a big decrease in power.
It sounded like it was missing so I pulled a plug wire off one at a time to identify the bad cylinder and it seems when I pull one and three off the car nearly dies. When I pull four off it makes a slight difference, when I pull two hardly any. I replaced the spark plugs, I tried different plug wires, I replaced the distributer cap and I checked my valves everything is kosher. I am running a Compufire ignition module and the timing is set right. The carb is new. What am I missing? Do the heads need time to seat or something? I guess the next step is a compression check, but I can't understand why before it ran great and now it idles like hell.

Check:

Is the manifold bolted on tightly/correctly?

Are your plug wires in the correct order?

Are you valves adjusted correctly?

do the compression test, report back with results
