Hi all, yeah I know I ask too many questions. :)
I have to replace the clutch cable in my 72 Square, I was laying under it the other day (as you do) when I noticed my cable was frayed an inch out the bowden tube. I got the replacement cable but it was going to cost $100 to fit. Aparently they are one of the only places that don't cut the tunnel. I don't have a bently yet as I want one with the colour wiring diagrams and whenever one comes up I am broke :(. If anyone can help with pointers or diagrams I would be a very happy man |

You dont have to cut into the tunnel to replace the clutch cable. If it was just frayed back by the tranny.
$100 is a rip off for replacing it. Flat rate time to replace the cable is only about 3/4 hour.
I realize you are down in OZ, but that labor is wrong, unless they are including all parts in it.

| LOL I can't afford to have them do it anyway. I am hoping to do it myself, at least that way I will get some hands on as well |

| If it is the same as my 64,it's very easy.It involves taking off the pedal assembly to access the clutch cable. If I'm not mistaken, there are other threads on here with complete info.Good luck. |

i was gonna say, iv never done it in a square but iv done it on a ghia and a bug and those are 30 min jobs tops.
there should be a bolt or two securing the pedal assembly to the tunnel and pan, and once you undo those and disconnect the accelerator cable, you should be able to pull the whole assembly with the cable free, that is, if youve freed the end connected to the tranny. from there i usually tie a peice of fishing string to the end to make pulling the new one through easier, though iv done it without that before too.
its not that bad. good luck! |

| Since the cable is frayed, you might want to cut the cable to make pulling out the old one easier. Also don't forget to grease the new one when you install it |
