Hey

For those of you who know/remember my saga I'll make it short.

I'm installing my rebuilt (for the third time) automatic back in my 71 Fastback.

It all went pretty smooth until I went to adjust the bowden cable. Bentley says to (paraphase) put the shifter in park, then push the cable mount on the transmission fully to the rear and tighten the cable housing nut.

In the explanation on the step where you are pushing back the cable mount the book says to turn the wheels until the park lock engages. Well when I try this it doesn't engage. ie with the cable mount pushed fully to the rear of the car the wheels still turn.

This seems like a problem and I don't want to put the engine back in only to find out something is screwed up.

Also. Should the pump shaft just slide in and out of the trans?

and, How long would the transmission last (under normal city driving) without the main pump shaft?

thanks for any and all help.
