Looks like a decent unmolested bus!

I think the big unknown of the engine ("won't start") is a factor in the price. They also mention rust. Also the East coast market may be softer than other parts of the country.

A bus that has been in the northeast for thirty years has almost no value to me. There are plenty available from the nice, dry, and salt-free southwest.

casey79westfalia Sun Nov 12, 2006 12:01 pm

Yeah but it looks to be a pretty good east coast bus. Would be an easy project. I guess I assume any car that old needs everything anyway. Some people think they will get a daily driver for $500 bucks with no rust. Looks to be in damn good shape for $153.00. Damn!! My wife wont allow another bus!!

tds3pete Sun Nov 12, 2006 5:35 pm

Looks like a demon deal to me. Not much rust for an east coast bus.

my best friend just bought a 78 westy today for $600 running/driving/ delivered to his door! it's great to see him in a bus finally!

True. The valuable buses come from the southwest and even up into the northwest. We don't use salt on the roads. :D

300 Bucks for a bus??? You can part it out for far more. Looks to be in better shape than the bus I drove from Oregon, for a tenth of the price!

Should have snatched it up, Casey!

Busses go for that everyday in the southwest, but samba advertisers are always hoping for more money. Check cars.com and craigslist for the better prices. Also, the prices fluctuate with the season, winter being much lower, spring being much higher. I find that buying in late December or January results in the lowest prices.

This is an auction.
First bid price is not the final selling price.
The seller might expect and actually sell only at a much higher price...

ridinthedune Mon Nov 13, 2006 9:57 am

and with a 95% feedback, I wouldn't bid on anything he's selling.

beingjanelane Mon Nov 13, 2006 11:21 am

mine is in much worse shape than that, and i paid a grand for it!

i bought mine from southwest florida where it had been for quite sometime.

when i ran the VIN, though, it originally came from cali.

The winning bid was 305 US. A very good deal I'd say.

I'd say a good deal also. I'd give him $500 for it in a second if only I lived closer. The parts alone are worth more than what it sold for.

Good deal in my book

i was at a show some time ago, there was a sweet ASI like that one for real good price. no bites at all...i think some people really just want the real westy...

Here is an intersting bus in Australia.
http://www.flat4ever.com/showthread.php?t=33291
The guy, Virgiles, did not buy it. May be the bus is not sold yet.
The owner wants 1000 euros about $1,280.

I guess he means: "une couille dans le potage" A very unusual slang sentence; First time I see it: "A ball in the soup". The first word alone is frequently used to mean "wrong" in a very pejorative way. "Tout est parti en couille" is like: "The shit hit the fan"

Here is, what all this thread in French, boils to:
Virgilles had tried a T2, he found the engine very weak for a 1800cc.
He was answered: Not to compare with today's 1800cc, and was given data to check wether or not the bus was on specs.
Virgilles did like the bus, however he wanted more power for long hauls across Australia.

BTW My son is, now, living in Australia, but I do not push him to buy a Westy, because he is a terrible mechanic, it is not his "cup of tea". I might go there for retirement...Spring and Summer in Canada, Spring and Summer in Australia.... 8)

Rocky Raccoon Tue Nov 14, 2006 11:05 am

Not here in Ca, a piece of shit covered in rust and dented everywhere goes for 10k. Its ridiculous out here.

Westy Driver Tue Nov 14, 2006 1:53 pm

Casey, you sold it already?
