When I first saw the thread, I was like yeah I will add to this one, but I was actually already in it...

have any pics of any old school 70's dealership stripes or decals? I've been wanting to add some to my white bay and i like the look!

I found this one in the gallery:

thanks hatfulofhollow... inspired me to go and take a few pics.

Vicki has original paint and those are the original stripes. I really do like the style of those 70's stripes, it fits these vans so well. I think if it ever came time to paint her, i would replace with the same or very similar striping.

but like the paint, the stripes are showing the patina.

Haha awesome baumer. I def like the 'patina' on the stripes too. I'm thinking of getting about the same thing, but with orange and green to match my orange wheels.

I wonder if they can put the patina in the new stripes when they run it through the plotter? Otherwise, I can wait...

Not sure if this is a 'pin' stripe, but it's a big orange stripe. It and the darker lower portion were added by a P.O. sometime in it's past.

Not trying to hate. I like stripes, that orange one is just wrong though, colorwise. It reminds me of a dirt ring in a bathtub. Here's another tip about stripes. That orange one for instance. If an owner wanted to, he could go to his local supplier, and purchase the stripe color of his dreams. In the identical width, and apply it directly on top of the existing stripe. Clean/degrease/dewax, applicable surface first, of course.
Tape stripes were, and are, frequently applied directly over the junction of differently colored paints. The junction is usually, less than lovely. The stripe is supposed to hide that, and integrate the two colors.

Coco's pin striping, I put it on, went on fairly easy

Extra points if you can find a picture that combines all of the photo threads for a pinstriped, snow-covered bus in the wilderness!

Not exactly PIN stripes, but...

Don

I really like this paint job, going to store it in the back of my brain for when I get ready to paint my bus.

Here's my 71

Originaly it was sold from the Jack Feely dealership in Redlands Cali. Anyone know if these blue stripes are unique to Jacks or common amongst dealers?

Sort of similar to yours baumer, but different ends and the dark one on mine is at the bottom unlike yours at the top. Also mine don't go round the back (but they will soon  ). Do you know where yours came from originally?

What's wrong with that paint job? That would look great if it was buffed out.

thegoodfight7211 Wed Jul 01, 2009 7:42 am

That's what I was thinking! I'm sure that's original paint. That would be a shame to repaint that. But then again, it's not my bus. 8)

Well I'm replacing a couple of small rusts spots with metal. Also this is for my wife and she wants sage green. I hate it because it's a '77 champaigne edition I. Which I can't find too many pictures of those only the '78 CEII's. Personally I would like to restore it to stock. Plus all the money and effort I'm putting into this thing I want the paint to be flawless.

Hey, popcorn balls , those are so close to the stripes I have, cool. That close up could have easily come from mine, only upside down.

The bus is currently in Canada, but it is a riviera, so it originated in Oregon. The scheme was likely a product of the 70's and I intend on keeping the stripe even if a repaint happens one day.
