I have a 1966 microbus and the high beams have not work since I've owned it. Nothing clicks when I pull the stalk and the high beam indicator on the dash stays off. I've fixed the rest of the lighting and this is the last step, but the wiring diagram does not make sense to me.
It shows wires go from the high beam lights > fuse panel > headlight switch. And one going from fuse panel > high beam indicator. As I understand it, the 1966 switches high beams with the turn signal lever. I see other people mentioning a relay but neither of these are in the high beam circuit on the wiring diagram. Can someone point me in the right direction for troubleshooting this? |

The relay is there at middle left, with yellow wire to fuse box. On earlier buses, the relay is mounted on passenger side behind the kick panel, under the dash, but I'm not sure if the 66+ ones hide there; they may be closer to the fse box. In any case, the t/s stalk makes a ground for that relay, which then switches hi/lo. So you either do not have a relay, it isn't working, or the t/s ground wire is not working. Look for the relay first and go from there.
EDIT - typical relay cube for headlights

Thank you!! Okay that makes a lot more sense now. I'd been looking at that relay on the diagram thinking it was the main light switch because it has an "F" at the top. Now I see that was just a label for one of its terminals and the switch is down and to the right. I'll get in there and see how things look at the relay. |
