I was curious as to how many use thier thing for offroad use and who uses them for around town driving. I also didn't like seeing this forum being the only one without any threads.
Ours is primarily used for offroading, and as of yet has done extremely well. What about yours? |

Ya you should. Driving them is "almost" as much fun as putting the bed in the Westfalia to good use. |

keifer, i thought i would let tim have the honour (?) of having the first post here. if you don't drive your thing off-road, you don't know what you are missing. of course, if you have never "used' the bed in a westy, you don't know what you are missing there, either!
The best of both worlds- towing your thing to a secluded camping site behind your westy! |

I want to be able to take on anything with my Thing thats why it looks like I am going to have a total of 12 wheels and tires for my 181. 4 Yokohama y356 SuperVan 195/75R14s on the stock rims for the street/highway, Mickey Thompson mini mags front and Mickey T. Baja belted on back for the dirt. And a set of sand tires yet to be determined.
My last Thing could go anywhere with a stock engine, trans, and tires. So I figure my current 181 when complete with the high performance engine and trans with the proper tires for the job will be my dream vehicle. No wait my 181 is my daydream vehicle my 67 Westy is the dream vehicle, yes a Westy at night can be more fun than a 181 during the day! Buses, Things and Sandrails complement each other like burgers and beer!

Our intention was to get a Thing for off-road. After I found my perfect Thing (is there sucha thing?) there was no way it was going off road. We are looking for another that will be for off-road only. We race off-road so we get our fix on a monthly basis. The new one will become our prerunner. |

I think he didn't. And he's in vacations right now. But Pierre-J has some other t-shirts in his "boutique" (store) :

Not quite as exciting as the Bat Thing, but here's where I take my Thing off the road:
This was the engine after running around in that stuff for 5 days:

I've taken it off-road a few times here in Central Wisconsin, nothing too exciting around here, but it was still fun to do! |
