This was a nice find. What is the fate of these busses? They would make some nice Patina'd drivers!

It was a 50 and like Rich says scapped in the early 90s shortly after Matt Keene discovered them.
Its a real shame that there wasnt enough interest at the time

I figured it was a 50/51??? Crazy!! About 20 years ago this buddy of mine was trying to sell a deluxe dash. He couldn't sell it. He told me to drop it into my panel. And I am pretty sure this guy has it????

I took these pix in 1991 after spotting the scrap yard from a motorway flyover in Lower Austria. The funny thing was that until the new motorway section was built near my Grandparents house, I never new that yard existed. (God bless modernity).
Anyhow... my friend Phil and I hauled a whole heap of parts out of that yard, but had trouble selling most of the Barndoor stuff! I reckon we had over ten pairs of ribbed bumpers, which we parted out for... £20 a piece (30 US Dollars). Nobody wanted any parts, simply because there were perhaps one or two Barndoors in the UK at the time. We had a bunch of early tail lights, semaphores, cab dividers etc. etc. etc. I had a letter printed in VolksWorld asking whether anyone wanted to save any of the Barndoors and got zero response. Can you imagine finding the yard today? The 1950 Panel was in totally solid condition...
Aside from the Panel, there were another seven or eight Barndoors ranging from 1951 to 55. All bar one could have been salavaged. About five miles down the road was another Yard where I bought a 1962 23 Window for £25 (40 Dollars). Oh, for a time machine.
I ventured back to the main Yard every time I visited my Grandparents right up until their death in 1999. Sadly, due to strict environmental laws, the Buses were cut up in the mid 1990s.
My favourite part that came from the Panel was its cast aluminium front badge. It is now on Julian Hunt's 1952 Panel. Peace, Matt Keene

Thanks for the reply from the photographer himself. At least we all know what happen to them.
