if your currently the registered owner then you can order a replacement. i think it costs a few bucks, but no big deal.
if your not the registered owner, then you will have to apply for a lost title. this takes longer and im not sure if it costs more or not. but basically they send your info to sacramento and verify that there is noone who has a vested interest in your car (like a lien holder or it has been reported stolen). when everything checks out you can get a title in your name when you register the car and pay all associated fees. |
