I keep filling my expansion tank and then a week later it's empty again. No problems, main tank look full and never really changes volume. I don't see it leaking anywhere? Help. Ian |

An expansion tank that goes down indicates a leak someplace!
Mine did this for a while before I had to pull the motor. If you wait too long, you could be stranded, or risk more damage.
The leak might be hard to find if small.
My leak gave no drip on the ground, the water leaked into the cylinder.
If ground is dry, I suggest a compression test to see if the head is tight. also inspect the engine oil for water in it.
Hopefully it is simply a loose hose and you missed the leak. worst case is an engine repair.

Pull each spark plug, one at a time to see if one (or more) looks much cleaner than the others. If water is leaking INTO a cylinder, it will turn to steam from the compression of that cylinder, and clean the spark plug. If this is the case, it's time for that dreaded "wasserboxer head gasket leaking" fix. |

Pressure testing the system will tell you real quick where the coolant is going. |
