...I have a bit of a problem here - a while back I got a whole bunch of stuff powder-coated sky (bright) white while I had the chance through work...popout window frames (which are already assembled with glass and new seals, and look BEAUTIFUL!), front window frame parts, shifter, etc. Anyway, since this time I have decided to go with the stock L472 Beige Grey and have already purchased the paint (Glasurit). I have no problem redoing the parts, as it's gotta be done, and actually like the idea of a powder coat base on these parts, but here is my question:
What prep is required to get good adhesion to the powder-coat, and is it even possible to get a really nice, durable finish?
Anyone have any experience with this?
I do have the opportunity to trade for a set of original frames and glass plus additional parts. What to do???
Thanks Tons!

unless you strip the parts again you run the chance of having too much build on your parts. You will find that things will not be as easy to assemble and you will chip your parts. |

Powder coat is very hard and slick, and very hard to sand. You have to scuff it to get some "tooth" for the paint to stick to.
I would trade for another set (and some cash), strip to bare metal, then prep, then prime, then paint. Kosmic is right...you will end up putting a very thick film on these parts. |
