Hi 1621,
I also purchased and installed last year this nice child cot from Gary Lee.
Great product, but one thing to say : the seat belt are sliding on the rear brackets of the child cot every times we are putting or removing the seat belts, which do an abrasive action on the paint of the bracket and will eventually damage the seat belt too.
No clue find for now. I discussed about this issue with Gary, but I haven't get any solution for now. |

I have the cot from selectvwparts as well and it is incredible! The only upgrade I did was use cot brackets from a baywindow instead of the aftermarket brackets in the kit. I have had it for 3 years and going strong! Cot rods easily store on the back shelf of the headbanget cabinet in my non ac westy. |

| How is it removing the head rests on the front seats? That seems like another step, and then you have to put those somewhere. The one from select VW parts looks awesome, but I might go for one of the homemade ones to just hang in place without battling the headrests. Clutter is maddening when camping. I don't want to upset myself when I open a door and out comes my headrest onto the gound. :( |

I removed the spring clips from the headrests so they pull out readily. Those clips now live permanently in the ashtray. We store the headrests on the driver's seat or on the same side floor mat. Never had them jump out the door. No reason to open driver's door until the cot has been removed and headrest replaced if that is a serious concern. The headrest will sit at the lowest setting if you don't replace the clips.
Living in GA, you might want to consider how much you will be camping in the rain. The PVC DIY versions I've seen run straps around the door frame. You will get water wicking down your straps at a minimum.
I've got the SelectVW version and it fits nicely in the back of the upper bunk (telescoping bars).

Just take a file and make the last stop on the headrest bars to be a v instead of a flat notch. When they are a V shape you can pull out or install the headrests without pulling the clips. If the clips are pulled out your headrest is no longer height adjustable either. |

| good tips all, I appreciate it. Yes, plenty of rain here, so I am shying away from the straps through the door trick. I liked one I saw that had the hooks in the same spot on the pillars, then rope going down to a smaller framed cot that would miss the headrests. Thanks again for the comments. |

| We installed the kit from Gary Lee last year. It wasn't cheap, but it was a great investment. My 5 year old loves having her own bed and it helps keep stuff better organized while camping. We just recline the from seats a little and it clears the headrests fine. |
