Getting ready to recover my rear Westy bed and would live to do it without removing the whole bench cabinet. Looks like the bottom is just held on by the bracket screws in the corners, but the back/upper may be slightly more challenging.

Any tips before I attempt something I regret? Bentley is quiet on the issue and search brings up dozens of people removing the whole cabinet.

When i put my floor in, I removed the seat without removing any cabinets. Dont remember what steps I took, but it was easy.

On my '81 the upper and lower bed wood pieces secure to the Z bed hinge. They came out w/o removal of any other parts.

There's some great videos on reupholstery work. The main thing I recall was that you have to keep stroking the fabric tight as you staple it down.

heres some images and text of what I did

I had to fudge the corners by sewing and glueing but they've held up for some years now.

In hindsight, if I were to spend more on stain proof fabric, I'd ask for demonstration of how stain resistant that fabric is. The fabric sold to me as "stain resistant", was not. Also, if you do a re-foam, shop around. Be sure to buy quality foam.

In our '84 the seat and back just unscrew from the hinges, as above. We bought some fabric, and used a glue gun (new fabric to new fabric) to 'upholster' it - wrapping the pieces up like Christmas presents. Cheap, easy, neat, removable.
