I've tried to search the forums for answer for the following questions. The explanation for my questions is that I have bought a set of front spindles and rear axles with reductionboxes without any brakeparts for my T-82e replica. (Raised 40's offroad beetle) I will also get one complete transmission with the rearaxles but as the case on that setup is badly corroded I'm also promised to take the case from an other transmission where the internals are gone.
1. Is it possible to replace the complete rearbrakes with later parts? For example from a later T-2 or even T-1 brakes.
2. How about frontspindles? Do I need to remachine the stubaxle on them to fit any other type of brakes on them? The threads on one of them in bad shape so I will probably have to remachine them anyways...
3. Am I correct if I assume that I will have to split the transmissioncase to take out the axles? I read in an other thread that it might be possible to mount them into a later tunnelcase too?
Thank you! |

I dont mind. :D
1. For the rear brakes you can use complete early Type-1 drums, backingplates and internals. They should be Bolt-on. An other option would be to use later T-1's but they need some minor work.
2. For the front, if I want to fit T-1 brakes I need to machine the stubaxle to same dimensions as the standard T-1. I was told that the early splitty bus brakes might work with minor work too, but this info wasn't 100% (just 99%)
3. To remove the axles I need to take the reductionboxes off and split the transmissioncase. Should work in later transmission too if you do some minor fitting.
If some one else have more info about the same just let us who have no clue know your experience.. |

Hi,
This info is pretty useful! Thanks for putting it up. I believe I have Barndoor reduction boxes on a later trans that came out of my '55 bdr. I will check it out and see what is fitted to what. 8) |
