I need help removing the carpet and headliner glue from my '70. I have tried Goof Off, WD-40 and lots of elbow grease. Before I invest money on the thousands of items that claim to remove sticky and unsticky stuff I thought I would ask ya'll. What works best to take this stuff off while leaving the paint on? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Chuck

Try cellulose Thinners and a scraper (V carefuly) it got the glue off of mine anyway.

Goo gone worked decent, I put it on waited about 20 minutes and lots of elbow grease to get it off. I broke down and took the carpet glue off with a wire brush on a drill. I painted POR-15 over the areas so the glue is gone, just not while leaving the paint on.

Use (Turtle wax bug and tar removel) just used it today and it works very well, and it will not harm your paint. you will need to apply it to the same spot a few times and rub with a rag but it will do the job.

I used a flathead screwdriver.

Acetone. It can harm your paint, so put it on a rag, then rub the spot.

3M general purpose adhesive cleaner P/N 051135-08984
works great. should be able to pick it up at any auto paint supply shop

The Turtle wax bug and tar remover didn't work, but it smelled pretty cool. I picked up the 3M stuff and will be attempting that this weekend. If it works I will take some pictures and post them. Thanks for all the input.

The 3M stuff rules. It takes a few applications, but with a razor scraper it is real easy to remove the glue. Thanks tronic for the tip. I picked it up at O' Reilly autoparts for about $8. Not cheap, but works great.
