Hi everyone, if anyone knows information about the Binz double cab and what distinguishes it apart from the other double cabs of '59 I would love to know. What makes them so special?

do a search or look on dropgates.com

Dropgates.com has a section on these. Just click on "Binz models" on the upper left hand corner.

Great question!

There are many distinguishing features that the Double Cabs built by Binz Karosseriefabrik boast:

A wider rear 3rd door (the earlier 1958 Binz has a suicide door)
Interior handle in middle of 3rd door- just below window
Binz Tag with id #3635 followed by actual production number of Binz
Factory Cut down side seam gates
No spare tire bump out (smooth and straight behind front seat- bulkhead)
Middle Roof Vent is smaller (similar to single cab vents)
Unique Metal half panel on upper far wall behind driver's seat (opposite side from rear door)
Pressed Bumpers on 1958 Binz Models
Unique Exterior Seam on driver's side - evidence of original single cab conversion by Binz
1958 Binz models have under floor panels
Widened and Fixed rear side windows on both sides (don't pop out)
Unique rear seat (if it came with the factory optioned rear seat)
550 originally produced
Only about 29 still known to exist today (just one known roadworthy Binz in Europe - Austria)
Binz production ceased on February of 1959

To specifically answer your question... the Rarity of the Binz is what make them so special!

In case the OP is still wondering, I'd add that before VW offered a factory buildt DC, Binz coach buildt single cab trucks into crew cab trucks. So they have a number of difffernces.
