I seem to recall a post a while back about this... I may be wrong but if
I remember correctly the answer was no, because the internals were a lot different - something like that.
I need a new switch for my '61 for the same reason. One of the PO had simply stuck a small bolt through the two broken pieces making for a very short turn signal lever. Quite ghetto indeed. |

How did you wire it up to use the brake and turn signal lights? Or did you use the 62 and newer taillights? |

O ok, nevermind then :D I miss read and thought you used the whole turn signal switch. I've got a 62-newer turn signal switch, so I can't make it work like you did. |

you can use 3 wire switch with 4 relays. Not pretty but it will work. actually you might get away with 2 relays, I have 4 because I am using my front park lights as turnsigs.

How did you wire this up? I've got the 3 wire signal switch, and don't have any brake lights (which is really scarry when big trucks are speeding behind me!!!) or turn signals. Any help and/or info would be great! Thanks! |

it might look a little crazy but after looking at it for a few minutes you will see that it's just 4 relays. one for each corner. brake circuit is on and get's interrupted when switch is flipped. same idea for the front.

No need for relays. If you have a 3 wire switch just go to the auto parts store and get a trailer convertor. It's for cars with independent (two separate bulbs) towing a trailer with common (one bulb) lights. you run your brake light wire and rear turn signal wires through it, and it does the work of the 6 wire switch. I just wired one in on my 62 which has the earlier snowflake taillights. Here is a pic of the convertor. I wired mine up front so I could easily change it when I get a 6 wire switch, but you can just as easily wire it in the rear out of sight. It works perfect, took about 3 minutes to install and is priced cheap (10 bucks).

Fluxcap,
where did you find this? I haven't been able to find this unit when I did my lights wiring. Although i would still end up running 2 of those. one for the front and one for rear....

| I got mine at autozone. But I think most autopart stores will carry them. I've even seen them at walmart. Just look in the trailer light/wiring section. Unless you have something custom planned for your front blinkers, you should only need one. |

I'll DEFINATLY look into getting that converter! Thanks for the info! :)
Edit: So just one converter will work for both front and rear turn signals and brake lights, right? Just want to make sure...I've got nothing "fancy" planned. :) |

Mine had 5 "input" wires and 4 "output" wires.
The inputs were:
Brake light - this is the wire coming OUT of the master cylinder brake switch
Left signal - this is the left signal wire coming off of the turn signal switch
Right signal - this is the right signal wire coming off of the turn signal switch
Running light - I cut this wire off of the convertor (there is no need to run your running lights through it.)
Ground - I also cut this wire off since the actual ground is created by the contact piece on the light mounting bracket.
The outputs were:
Left - this wire goes to the left rear bulb (duh)
Right - this wire goes to the right rear bulb (duh again)
ground - cut it off
running light - cut it off
Here's a closeup.
