I’m looking to have my rims powder coated to match the body.
The shop is having a hard time matching the body color L380.
Is it a hit or miss type process or are there color formulas for powder coating?
Second how do I take care of this rust on my brake drums?
I was thinking of wire brushing them, then just painting them.

There isn't a much color available for poweder coat then regular paint. You can easily mix paint to change the shade a couple degrees up or down. I don't think you can mix powder coat

Go to a powder coater that does alot of work. BIG SHOP! They have tons of places they can order powder from. Most little operations want to use the powder on hand because they do not want to buy a new box of color to use on one job only. You can get the color you want if you are willing to buy a full box of powder. I just looked at over 300 samples to get Reed Green....spot on! Also, having 5 wheels powdered with the (right) special ordered powder and beadblasting will cost you about $100.00 each wheel. I have paid as little as $40 per wheel in black only.

Do those prices include stripping the wheels too, or did you do that yourself?

The included in the price"beadblasting" is the stripping.

I just recently had a set of turtlebacks done at $50 per wheel, including beadblasting and taping off of the rim for polishing...

Well I got the rims back, the color is way off.
According to the Samba color chart, the wheel disc should be L381
Sea Green but I wanted them to be L380 Turquoise to match the body.
I’m not happy with them, but I will live with them over the summer.
I painted the inner ring silver beige, mounted the new tires and I’m good to ride.
Maybe once I get the wide white-walls mounted it may look ok.
What do you think, is this something you could live with?

I epoxy primered the outer sides... I am going tp POR15 the rest.

Honestly, they do look way off. Just a thought, you can paint over the powder coat after you sand it down good and then primer. I would take a small part off your car that has the correct color on it and take it to an automotive paint supply house. They can match it spot on and even put it in spray cans for you. Then, sand, primer and repaint the correct color on them.
