I just finished installing a new wiring harness on my '63. I put the motor back in, started it, and there was a subtle 'pop' sound then my clutch pedal went limp. The engine ran for a bit then started making a clunking sound so I shut it off. I then pushed the clutch pedal back in and it was really stiff. So I restarted it and it made the clunking sound then died. I tried to restart it but the battery had died. The clutch pedal was again really soft. It felt something was winding up and making the motor labor, but I'm not sure. Does anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks,

Did you change the pressure plate? It's possible the throwout bearing failed or the arms on the cross shaft broke.
Can you rotate the engine by hand? |

first check your clutch cable, if its okay, pull the engine and inspect your clutch, pressure plate, TO bearing and clutch arm. one or more of these are busted most likely. |
