Is it just me or this price is way over the going price for this part.

Fake? Or later production?

Not interested myself, just curious whether it's really from the 40s

Seller says this is a "Four brick Hood Crest".

I thought this is the "Four brick Hood Crest".

If by counting the second to last row of bricks next to the door - then you are correct.

That's what i thought everyone call it a 4 brick crest because you count the second to last row from the bottom. At least that's what I learned regarding the 4 brick vs the 3 brick crest.

Not a fake I would say.
Those where common but in the 50s.
I do not believe such one was produced and sold in 1948.

Have I missed out on current values for early convertibles? I havent seen a restored or pristine early verts near this price.
Taking a 0 out from it's current asking price, brings it alot closer to a realistic price. Would be a bit low, but closer to reality versus current price. But I may be wrong which I am open to learn.

yes, you have missed out on current values for early convertibles. MAINLY split dash convertibles. If you took a zero out of the price, it would be incredibly cheap, like not even realistic.

115K might be too much, but I bet it sells for that, or very close to it and quickly. Split-dash verts do not come up for sale on the public market.

I was shocked when I saw the price tag as well. I remember selling my set here years ago and decided to look up my old ad. Here it is from 2008 :

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=695523

I was asking $6000 as well !! Holy crap! I forgot all about that. To be honest, I'm pretty sure I sold them shortly after I posted the ad for $3500... and I thought that was a lot of money as well.

You'll notice that mine had different latches compared to the one's in the classifieds right now. I didn't know there were different versions.

What I found out is that split window latches are similar to early bus pop out spoon latches. I seen other types like the one on the ad above but those are for other type of cars. They will fit the bug but are actually made for different car.

Here is mine below.

How is this considered NOS?

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2348946

finster Fri Jan 31, 2020 4:54 am

^^ sometimes NOS can stand for 'nasty old sh!t'

oldovaldriver Sat Feb 01, 2020 11:46 pm

New Old Stock only means that a part was never installed or used. It could have considerable shelf wear, corrosion from poor storage conditions, or possibly even factory defects--and still be NOS.

New ad from this seller:

Do you think his ad is misleading?

are there left and right lenses for these type? Looks like they're mismatched with different markings for a "pair"

They are LHD and RHD, not a left and right to make a pair.
