I've heard a myth that subwoofers can destroy cars, eg make them rattle and rip apart welded surfaces. It has kind of put me off subs. I'm thinking of putting a 12inch in my 71 super but I don't want it falling to bits on me. Has anyone one had any experience with this or any knowledge on the subject?

I'm a Aerospace Engineer, and we do acoustic testing on satellites to insure that they will still work after being launched on a rocket.
The Lockheed Martin Acoustic Test Cell can generate enough noise to rip apart a file cabinet. Your cars electrical system can not supply even a tiny tiny fraction of the amount of power needed to do that type of damage. |
