They might be a little white, but this was my first attemped at making these. They are 125 temp tires. Just wanted to see if it will work before I destroy a good set of 135's!! I ground off the letters, cleaned it w/ electrical cleaner (evaporates in 2 seconds and leaves no residue) And then I taped it off and spray the crap out of them.

Are they too white??

Never mind the vintage hubcaps, I needed to see what they were gonna look like with rims. They will be going on my square!! Thanks for checkin' it out!!!

Keep up posted how this works out - damn good idea! - Obviously if you scuff a curb, its gonna come off, but hey - saving big $$ on Cokers is a neat idea!!!!

I think whiter is better on wide whites. That's a good idea. I like it!

hot rod and custom people have been doing this for years. there's been multiple threads over on the hamb about it. with vinyl spray dye tend t work even better than the fusion. the fusion will crack over time but you just scuff and reshoot them. cheap and very effective for a driver...ken....

Those look great! How did you mask off a circle that well? Special masking tape? This would be great for my rat project.

I used electrical tape out of all things. :lol: And the lines are on the tires. You just have to have to find ones with a line on the top. These were good year, from a mid 90's buick!!! After you are done, get a sharp razor or excacto knife and straighten and remove any over spray or leaking paint.

they also sell tire paint made for this also. But as with all painted on paint on tires, you need to maintain/repray it often. Some also use tires with white letterings and grind off the layer of black until the entire white walls are exposed. Use caution when doing this as you are making the side walls thinner. But there is a white wall layer under there.

They should last a while. I sanded a spot last night and it didn't even phase it. But as I said, I did spray the crap out of them. I won't be driving my sqback everday, so if it were a daily, I would guess they would have to be touched up every other month or so.

i have the same caps in my garage. are you on the hamb ? my old hot rod friends give me crap for loving vws because they want me to finish my 29 roadster owell. what did you use to grind the letters off? thanks billy

I used an 80 grit disk attachment for my grinder, I will use a 100grit next time. Then I used a 150 grit block to touch up. What is the hamb?? I know it has something to do w/ rods?? I'm not into hot rods, I do love them, but not as much as I love me some Volks!! I just roll the type 3's now. The real VW!! :lol:

Bad guess. I just got back from driving to portland on them and they look the same as when I left!! Little dirty but washed right off. !60 miles round trip. :roll:

Ive used the fusion method too.

IT works GREAT! --- UNLESS your tire goes a little low and you dont realize... THEN you drive on it :oops:

but a quick re-coat and you are ready to ride again! :lol:
