Is there a way to remove the complete top from the car for painting??

Three bolts on the hinge mounts on each side and then remove the cables on the rear, should come off as 1 piece then.

Don't forget the wires for the rear window defroster.
Good Luck

I see the hinge bolts - no problem. I am not sure where the cables are?? Also it looks like the inside liner is nailed down just below the hinges and a couple of other places behind the back of the seat - I assume I carefully pull the nails. Also there are two screws on the outside on either side screwed through the top and then sheet metal. The rest of the top - bottom seems to go under a lip on the body - do I have push down then up to clear this lip?? Thanks for the help!!

The rear cable holds it under that lip. loosen the nuts on either side just behind where the top frame bolts to the body and remove the cable.

marksalot has it right.
Once you loosten the cable, you'll see how simple it is, really nice design.
Yes you have to pull the staples holding the fabric to the inside wood frame along the rear car body.
