| that would have to be the 73 just cause it's different...first year car... ect..that and as a small child i was like..'i want a yellow 73 superbeetle...truth is i settled for a std..'wanted the flat windsheild and 'stronger' suspention but a friend of mine has one of these 73 supers and i think there wonderful.:D |

| im a little biased by saying that i like the '71s, but they are my favorite, flat windscreen, smaller tail lights, older style steering wheel. I also does not have those awful huge shock absorbing bumpers! |

From a practical standpoint, I like the earlier (pre-74) ones because they don't have all the engine pollution control and Fuel Injection bells and whistles.
Easier for the average backyard mechanic to work on. |

| to be honest, the 1974 Superbeetle was the best choice vw made. It had the first year of shock absorbing bumpers and they do work great. the other reason as all superbeetles have the larger trunk over the standards. |

| I am partial to 71's for the same reasons as 71super. Although the rack&pinion put in later would be nice :) |

The '73 is my fav. It has the firts year for the curved windshield, year-only round-top seats, first year for the new single pod dash, elephant feet rear lights. and in Ca. it's the most modern smog exempt bug you can get. ;) .If mem. serves me that was the year VW put the 3.88 r/p in the tranny.
Love my bug! |

keifer,
thanks for the props, man! That is my ride. Just finished restoring it. I have the 10 spoke wheels, but they are not on right now and its lowered all around, so its not bone stock but its damn nice. Sorry, fellas, just have to brag after nearly 3 years of work.
Anyhow, I like the 71-72 with the flat windsheild and smaller lights, but, like keifer, I like all aircooled rides.

Yeah Pete, I have heard you talk about your ride here before. you should post that link to the site with the info on "special models" again...
I have a few sets of 10 spokes, I like the way they look.
I have a 72 I am building to be a "pseudo" Marathon blue edition... it will not have all the OG interior etc. but will be sweet looking... |

| I like the 75 Superbeetle. It was the last year of the Superbeetle sedan. The rack and pinion steering is much tighter than the worm and roller steering box type. And it's maintenance free. I also like the great fuel economy and driveability of the fuel injection. I've found it easier to troubleshoot and work on than the carb'd model I use to have. |

I like the '72 Super. We had one in the family years ago.
The '72 has a Flat windshield, smaller tail lights compared to '73 & up, and
has the flat 4 spoke steering wheel. I liked the power of the 1600 carb,
it seemed stonger that the 1600 FI in my '78 vert that I have now. |

Man, Caciquepro1, that's tough. I'm sitting here reading theSamba, and this post hit me like a ton of bricks. I'm wiping my eyes, no kidding. 8 years old, I couldn't even imagine what that would mean. I am so lucky to be celebrating my daughter's 11th birthday tomorrow. She loves VW's too. Sometimes we all need to sit back and give thanks.
Nobody better be dissing Super's while YOU'RE around...
Here's a photo of my wife and kid at the Medford Halloween parade last fall, hope you like it:
