What year did the beetle loose the crank start hole?

It was an option well into the 50s, and maybe the 60s as well, but I believe Glen is right, it ended as a standard feature in '49.

So an apron would be the same from 50 until mid 55, correct?

I have seen that very many of years 1949-1950 export splits also have the hole and support for bumper, this could also be country specific option that time?

I believe that Sweden for example had the crank start option up to 1952

I had heard that also. My '50 came from Sweden and it has the crank start hole in the apron...
