View original topic: Early Barndoor Panel in Brazil

A couple of years ago I found I had been added to the mailing list of The Brasilian Fusca Club (FUCAABC). I don't know much about the club and the regular postings are in Portuguese with an English automated translation that sometimes takes a bit of deciphering.

Today I got a posting of a show in Sao Paulo commerating the 50th Anniversary of the Kombi in Brasil...'57 was the opening of the VW Factory in Sao Paulo and a Kombi was the first vehicle off the assembly line.

There were quite a few attached pictures of buses of course but one in particular that I thought would interest the Barndoor cognacente.

Can't read the licence plate on the rear panel but I have an idea who the owner is, anyone heard about this one?

To my untutored eye it looks like early 1950.

I think thats the late 50 that was up for sale recently, the rear badge is not right for that bus, i think $45k was the asking price

Anybody notice the damage to the passengers side roof by the nose and front door. Looks like something fell on it and damaged it pretty well, roof line is way off and a-pillar looks pushed in too. Looks sweet other than that, and the damage could be easily fixed. Still a sweet early BD for sure.

Indeed it is Ian.

Nice and early but unfortunately not a good restoration.

Can't be the owner I was thinking of then.

Is it me or does that front bumper sit to far from the body :?:

Yeah I was noticing the bumper too. Whats up with it. The side mount on the bumper seem really far back where it mounts to the dog leg, almost like it is supposed to stick out that far. I'm not trying to tear it apart or anything, because it is still a very nice early BD Panel, just has a couple of weird things about it.

The front bumper is typical of the stock bumper hangers produced for Buses from the Sao Paulo factory for post '57 Buses. Obviously an example of poor attention to detail.
