Send me the grand, and keep the 40 horse
Seriously,if you are that desperate, buy a used running 1600 dual port.Sell the 40 horse, and read up on some mild bolt on mods.Thats about all you will get. |

I'll try to give you a more serious answer... I tend to answer a lot of 40HP/1200 questions here... Since you say you want to keep the engine, I'd recommend you look through some of these previous threads about building a good 40HP and see if that info helps you any. If you have a solid original 1965 engine right now, that's a good one to start with.

Also, I went and looked at some of your previous posts and noticed no one ever answered your query about putting a bigger carb on your engine. Unless you build the engine to a big-bore 1385, the stock 28PICT carb is as good as you need, a bigger carb won't help you any. Even on my 1385 40HP, I've run a 28PICT just fine, although right now I'm running a 30PICT-1. Now, dual carbs would give a performance boost.... but it's very rare to find dual carb setups that fit 1200 engine.

Yeah, I know about this. I've been looking for manifolds to run duals on my 40 horse for about 2 years... |

1300 heads aren't very common, at least in the US, as they were only sold here one year. A lot of them were built up to 1500 or 1600 and either bored for the larger jugs or replaced. You can still find decent 1300 heads if you look though, and they'll bolt up to a 40HP engine. Or you could locate a set of 1300 dual port (twin port as they call them over in the UK) heads from overseas and use those, either method would allow you to put dual carbs onto a 40HP.

| Cool... Well, dual Kadrons, at 40mm would be too much for a 1300. Weber 34ICT and those EMPI 34 EPC kits are about the only bolt-on kits I've seen recently for the SP motors. As of yet, I have heard nothing about if those EPC kits are any good (EMPI, Chinese produced though, something that may not be a good thing). I've worked with ICTs before, they are OK, that's probably how I'd go. |

How about a few upgrades that are in parts you can use on anything.
Pointless ignition.
Full flow oil filter set up.
low restriction exhaust
new internal regulated 12v alternator if you have 12 volt now.
Maybe a new Dizzy
If you go inside the engine I wouldn't bother with balance or port and polish. But some new valve guides and new springs and general cleanup home style porting. New P&L and new bearings on rods and mains.
That 1300 was a good tourqe engine that you could run wide open and not hurt in stock form.
It's real hard to not try hop up tricks when your inside and spending money anyway but the little guy has lasted long and tested by time the way it is. |

well i have a 009 dizzy, 12v system, low restriction exhaust, id like a Full flow oil filter set up, but i dont want to tear into it, and ive heard not gret things about the oil pump/filter thingy.
i dont do weird things i just want it to perform to "normal"standards.
i know im not going to win any beauty contests or races but a bit quicker is good.
thanks
ill doo all that stuff someday! when im rich and the babies are loooon gone!

Now i'm confused you said in your first post stock motor, are you now saying it has a 009 and a low ristriction system, or are these parts you allready have you could install?
And if you dont want to do anything internal you could have said that from the start.

ooooh my bad guy,
yeah i have a stock core enginge with peashooters and a 009 dizzy. with 12v system.
i have a low restriction system that i can add and i dont want to pull the engine apart because the PO rebuilt it, and its pretty good, but eventually i will change the CAM and cylinders and if i can find them reasonably priced some carbs...

| keep the 40 horse and use it for what it is. if performance is what your after, you'll be miles ahead to just start w/ a 1600 dp and do the basic bolt on stuff. |

its not really performance per se', just trying to make it prettier.
performance = big $$
this way ill only spend a few bucks to leave it the way i want.
