View original topic: Changing Bolt Pattern Question?

Hello all,

I'm not sure which way I'm going to go with this, but I thought I'd throw it out for feedback...

Where might I find front rotors and rear brake drums for my '69 Fastback that are drilled in either the early wide 5 pattern, or Porsche 5 lug pattern?

Any vendors selling both T3 rotors and drums drilled for these patterns?

Thanks in advance!
Tom

I don't think you will find any front rotors with the wide 5 VW pattern. The pattern bolt circle is bigger than the hub. <G> Rear drums you might find since early Type 3's came this way.

On my Squareback, I had a friend with a Bridgeport drill the rotors and rear hubs for a 4x100mm pattern for the wheels I wanted to use. I then pressed in wheel studs so I could use standard chrome lug nuts. Worked well for me.

Of course it helps to have a friend with a Bridgeport Mill. <G>

CSP has a wide 5 front disc kit...bring your wallet though :!: As for the Porsche pattern most aftermarket disc kits can be drilled for it for an extra cost.

Yup. The indexing head makes it much easier. <G>

Thanks for the replies guys. I was thinking wide 5 because I like the 5 lug BRM wheels better than the 4 lug.

I guess Fuchs alloys it is! \:D/

Hello all,I have a 69 Fasback with 5 x 205 disc brakes on front and 5 x 205 adapters mounted on the stock 69 four lug drums on the rear.My question is ,will the early Type 3 5 x 205 rear drums work on a 69 ?I'm hoping to get rid of the rear adapters. Thanks

Yes, they will bolt on. Remove the 36mm nut to remove the 4 lug drum and hub, and just install the wide 5 type 3 drum. Adjust the brakes and tighten the 36mm nut to 217 ftlbs. Make sure you add a new cotter pin.

Just an update, Ordered my 5 x 205 fear drums yesterday from California Imports. They have a Labor day sale on right now so I saved a few bucks. Thanks again for the help.Since I'm a first time Type 3 owner and The Samba is a God sent.

Before you install them, put them on a lathe and see if they're round. I only mention it, as some of those new drums were machined off center. Old original type 3 drums are best to use IF you can find someone who is swapping to 4 lug or a Porsche pattern set up.
