Hey all,

I am looking to build a hopped up 1200 for my 58 beetle. I Anyone have any advie? No, I don't want to hear that I should put a 1600 in it. I am looking to have a ball making the most I can out of a 40.

On top of advice I am looking for one of the big bore (I think they were 1385) kits that used to be offered. Motorworks had them listed until a few months ago.

Also looking for a NEW NOS or perfect used Holley bug spray 200 cfm carb, or Zenith carb.

Has anyone built one of these in a while? Are there any shops that still do?

Thanks,
john ammond

Any chance you'd switch to a 1300? You can bore those out to 1600 (no offense intended)and dual-port it.

I'm gonna say GEX for the engine part. Replace the heads and 1.25 to 1 rocker for more HP for your buck. you can find these anywhere.

I suggest that you dont upgrade your 40 horse moter just because they really arent for high performance. Your best bet would just to get a 1300, 1500, or 1600. I know that a 1600 probably has more hp than stock than a souped up 40 horse.
