Way back when, when I first got my bus I had screens that fit in the jalousie windows. I left them in someones garage and they are long gone.

Anyone know of a source for these?

Thanks.

you may be able to have some made from a company that makes screens for house windows. just a thought

I think regular house screen frames have a different profile than the Westy screen frames. The house ones are boxy and they fit in a large channel. The one that fits in the Westy are meant to slide into place in a thin channel. You may want to try a place that installs louvered windows. These were common quite a few years back but maybe somone has a stash of screen frames from the 60s or 70s. Maybe some old window place in Florida :) Someplace with humidity and rain.

Try to find an old screen and frame shop. They may have the screen frame material that you need and they can make the screens. Westy screen frames have a lip on the outer edge that fits into a channel on the window frame.. This helps keep it in place. The screen frame material is getting very hard to find these days. Wish some one out there would reproduce them. I know they would sell.

buy frame materials of your choice.

measure.

measure again.

cut to fit

build frame

test fit

adjust as necessary

attach screen (i used a staple gun since the frame was wood)

put in windows

as far as the screen part goes you can just use regular old house screen for that stuff. one of my jalousie windows had the screen busted out but i had the empty screen frame and i used screen and spline (that rubbery stuff that holds it in) that you can get from home depot. in doing that it looked like that aluminum framing wasn't all that special. (other than being the right size, of course). i imagine that's something that with the proper measurements you can just make yourself. or you could get empty ones from a junk yard and rescreen them, or you could make wooden ones if you have the right measurements. just a thought.

Keep your eye on the classifieds here on the samba - they do pop up. Insist that your shipper takes the screens appart for shipping - you will likely want to replace the screens anyway, so the safest way to ship these is to take them apart and then they are one straight object rather than a weak rectangle.

I bought some before that were shipped both ways - the original shaped screen frame bent and broke in the middle and the other one I bought that was taken apart first prior to shipping was in great shape.

Ditto, take them apart. Seeing the frame cracked when you open the box is a real downer.

if the link doesn't work it's a thread about making your own frames and screens. everybody must be thinking the same thing since the weather is all summery now. we forgot to open our windows up on friday night when we were camping and it got so hot in there that i dreamed i was a baked potato. no lie. couldn't get up to open them at that point because i didn't want to wake the baby up so a baked potato i remained.
screens are good.
