I finally got my '74 in tip-top shape, and am now looking to find some snazzy rims for it. What rims do you outfit your Ghia with?

Genuine Porsche 2 Litres:

Those look mighty cool. I take it they are 5.5" wide. Did you have any trouble with the tires scrapping the fenders? Is that a '71 you've got?

ovalboy Mon Jul 02, 2007 1:58 pm

They are 5.5". I have plenty of clearance with 165's on the rear, actually enough to go up to a 195 (possibly a 205). My Ghia is a 1967 with early short axles BUT, I had them on my 1968 Ghia with the long axles and they also fit fine.

Man do they look nice with the black recesses. Did you have any rubbing problems in the front? Do you know what size tires you run on your KG?

Thanks for your feedback. What size tires do you run in the front? I take it you had no rubbing problems in the front either.

OVALBOY: are those wheels that you have on your Ghia called Pedrini wheels off a 914?? I LOVE the look of those and would like a set for my '71 IF they would fit OK(??). THANKS for the info!!!

They are not Pedrini's. They are Fuchs which came from the factory on some Porsche 914's with the 2 litre engine (1973 and up). There are aftermarket 2 litre style wheels available, but from what I understand, there are clearance issues with the front calipers on disc brake cars. Mine are genuine Fuchs "2 litre" wheels. They will bolt right up to your 71 as the bolt pattern is identical.

My computer is blocked from posting photos here in the thread...

5.5" Porsche 914 steelies in the "+" pattern with 185/65 tires on my '64 (on '70 pan); friend's '68 has gennie 914 alloys but he installed the short swingaxles in back so that he does not have tire interference problems. See a photo of both cars and their wheels in my "gallery" button.

Ovalboy, your Ghia is magnificent (wheels and colors)!

Chuco, IMO, the late big-bumper Ghias look "top heavy" on the skinny original wheels. INstalling nothing but a nice set of wheels (don't go overboard) like the 914's make a huge difference in appearance. My preference would be the 914 alloys like on Ovalboy's car. And 185/65 tires with them...
