Here are the links to some photos I just took. Sorry, couldn't figure out how to link the images directly.

Those look pretty much like the OE ones I have. You would probably have to have them side by side to pick out the differences. Do you remember if they have part numbers on them?

david those look pretty dam good to me, sure the end pieces and center brace look a tad different in respect to the corners don't look as smoothed out as OG, but still very respectable for the price. You know I have bought jailbar parts pretty cheap before for splitties, I'd be willing to bet that the end mounts have remained the same through the years so you could eaisly swap those if you wanted more correct. Thats why I was curious if they used the older center bar (pointed 3 hole), which of course would make sence $$ wise for the maker of these as all they would have to do is cut the bars a little longer.

but hell, for vehicles with curtians (like my westy) the endcaps are never to be seen again anyway!

of course the suck thing is that us guys that have the real deal by searching high and low and dealt with some real jack-offs in the process can't really reap the rewards at campout etc,, when people walk up are are in awe of this cool VW part that they never knew existed, instead you get "hey, you got those from BD, I just got a set of those too" :(

Oh well, its cool to see someone actually making an effort to make parts like this though, it could be a good sign of things to come if there's enough intrest!

Thanks, Markus!

Where would one go about finding jailbars and parts for a splittie? I checked on the Bus Boys site and didn't find anything.

I'm talkin' swap meet/parts busses etc... I have even pulled the end pieces off old rusty hulks ready for the crusher before. They seem fairly easy to find for splitty busses-at least a few years ago any 15+ window deluxe used an ass load of end mounts for all the back windows :). I don't have anything anymore to compare to my v-gon ones, but I would imagine that they would use the same dia bars

Sorry, Pascel. Your question slipped my mind. There are no part #s anywhere on the Bus Depot bars. In fact, the package they came in is completely anonymous also so I have no idea who makes them or if they are from Bangledesh or not :)

I see. You were talking about used ones. That's a good idea. I just checked out what the splittie jailbar ends look like, and it looks to me like they are the same as those used on Bay Window and T3 jailbars.

Whats the part number on the Samba jail bar ends?

I'll tell you if they are the same as the type 3's.

Nice to see the positive reviews on our jailbars!

We do have them for '64-up splitties and Bays (in fact for $5 less than the Vanagon ones) ...

While we don't have them for pre-1964 splitties (which have smaller rear windows) you could use the above ones and cut the bars shorter.

To answer a couple of the other questions, they come from Just Kampers of England, and are polished aluminum.

There I was, On a backroad and I saw a collection of V-Dubs and lowe-and-behold there was a Vanagon rottin' away in a field with stock jail-bars. $20 bucks later I have a sweat new addition for my girl.

That Rocks Huh :?:

Good find! That must have been an 84 Wolfsburg Edition Vanagon you got them from - the only US Vanagon model to be equipped with jailbars.

Just a note to those who purchased my rear hatch window jailbars (or plan to) ... I now have matching side window jailbars in stock to complete the look.

For the side jail bars on my bus I used the straight-on brackets for the upper/rear mount. Looks a little nicer in my humble opinion. I got my rear hatch set from a supplier in England at least 7 years ago, not being able to find them any where here. I'm not sure if it was Just Kampers though. Nice to see that the side bars are available now also.

these are cool looking, but can anyone confirm that they existed for the vanagons orginally? Dunno if they would jive with my late model "vents" in the widows either.

Does anyone know where I can get my hands on a set of those side window jailbars?? I have never seen them before.

Those side window bars that you are looking at are home made.

He used the rear window hardware to mount the side glass bars.

I've seen the Vanagon accessory listing at VW and there isn't such an item for a Vanagon.

I ordered a set from Bus Depot a couple years ago. They came in a shipping tube, bent across the end. Hmmmm... guess what the bars looked like inside? Called up and they sent out another set - same thing. The third set they sent finally made it unscathed - it helps to pack the shipping tube with some form of protection.

Now I've got an extra couple sets of bent bars and mounting hardware. Perhaps I'll hack them up and try the side bars. Or not.

If you're lucky, you could end up with a 'free' set of side bars just like me! :D

Why didnt you send the damaged set back to Bus Depot. They were good enough to send you a replacement set based on your word that they were damaged.
That sounds pretty cool of them to do that for you, why not man up and reciprocate on the courtesy and ship them back.
