View original topic: Belt Guard Hits Alternator Nut

I'm installing the mesh type belt guard but the alternator spacer/acorn nut protrudes too far. I've seen several pictures where people have cut a hole to clear the nut. For example:

I'm wondering if the spacer/acorn nut can just be replaced with a regular nut for clearance or does the shaft itself have to be shortened? If just the nut has to be replaced, does any happen to know the shaft size so I can pick-up a new nut?

Thanks guys.

Just put a stock nut and spacer on.

the stock nut should fit ok

i prefer the mesh guard as it looks good (imo), and you only have to snip out a couple of buts of wire to clear the tall pulley nut.

Any air cooled vw breaker will be able to send you a stock nut. You might struggle to find a metric nut of such a large size, but thin. (especcially in the US!). :)
