2 Questions... #1 I have a 63 t-1 1200, the books all show a single notch crank pulley as stock but mine has 2 v shaped notches on it, the pictures I find indicate its a 1600 pulley? so...which notch would I line up with the split in the case for #1 TDC, and what should I static time it at? Number 2--- When using a timing light where do you all hook it up to get 6v, do you use some extensions and go to the battery or what. Thanks

Below is an image of pulley and picture I made up showing all the stock timing mark locations in relation to each other.

On a 1200/40HP, your two marks are probably 7.5 and 10BTDC.

Static (or any kind of) timing depends on the distributor, with the stock 1200 distributors, plus the 009, they usually run good around 10BTDC, kick it back to 7.5BTC if you get any knock/pinging.

How do you power up a modern inductive timing light with a 6V car? Well, you can't. You have to have a 12V car parked very close by or a spare 12V battery you can hook it up to. (Unless you mean you are using a 6V test light to check it statically.... )

I forgot to mention itas a 40 hp big cap dist. Ill try that 10 btdc setting. Yep I meant for the inductive timing not a static test light, I have a battery I can use for power. Thanx Glutamodo you always come thru with an answer!

To verify TDC remove spark plug #1. Stick a pencil (preferably unsharpened) or 1/4 inch dowel in the hole until the pencil hits the top of the piston. Turn the motor over by hand until the pully notch is at the top and the pencil is sticking out as much as it ever has. That's TDC. Mark the pully and you have all the marks you'll ever need.
