I have an OG 53 beam, and OG tranny drum to drum... I don't know what they are worth, but if you can figure it out and how to get em, they are available and sitting here in Colorado. Chances are the tranny is good as the bus was put out of commssion after some cliff diving.. not mechanical problems..

I don't think lowered BDs are the trend, they are just easier to finish. stock parts just cost too much and are hard to find so it takes longer. :)

He's right Rich........

How about trading some 16" bus wheels with correct trim rings for a set of polished "earlies"..................... :?:

i was just thinking the other day and remembered that when i was building that bus, the only thing i had to go on for barndoor deluxe details was some photos and video footage of a deluxe. it just happens that both the photos and video that i used were of the other 53 that you own ,before you bought it. funny that you own both now.

That photo is when I had it at the 'Classic' For Sale in like '98 or so ,probably right before Mark bought it

BeaterBarndoor Thu Sep 20, 2007 4:46 pm

yes ,that was just before i got it. i think i was out there for my first time at the classic weekend . i remember seeing that and was too embarrassed to get too close to it,thinking someone would see me checking it out, then a few months later i owned it! funny

Mark - I didnt see those scoops hanging in your shop...I know you kept them for nostalgic purposes...

BeaterBarndoor Thu Sep 20, 2007 5:21 pm

hey Jack,
unfortunately when charley "de-pimped" it, evidently he tossed those along with the very rare bronze translucent plexglas decklid.
i really wish i had a say in that. i would definately have that junk hangin on my walls!! i did however get the rare turbo mirrors with it, but i sacrificed them at the swap to fund the restoration.

It looks more pimp with Merz in it...

merz356 Thu Sep 20, 2007 7:01 pm

HA HA, I think that photo was taken by Dean

Charlie through all that crap into the Trash bin, should of kept the Decklid though, even though it weighed about 500 pounds !

It was '97,that pic is dated on the bottom

If you want some Turbos for the standard I can let you have the vintage pair I was saving for the Doublecab.

Yes, it was 1997. I remember I brought my cute Philipina girlfriend to the shows that year and hated every minute of it cause the minute we arrived she was asking when we were going to leave. I broke up with her 10 years ago.

Mark M, where did you buy it from/when?
What was the story of it before you owned it?

merz356 Fri Sep 21, 2007 5:42 am

I had bought it from a guy named 'Fred' he lived up here in Norcal out in Livermore. I had found the bus a few years prior to owning it. Fred came up to me at Kelly Park one year and noticed my "Wanted" barndoor bus sign. Long story short he had told me he had one. It would take a few years to finally get him to sell it.

He was big on the 'show' scene in the mid to late 80's, the bus is actually pictured in one or more of the mags from back then. I have one of them around here somewhere. He was really 'Proud' of all of his Trophies he had won with the bus. He had ALLOT of them, they stayed with him.

Fred is the tweaker who did all the damage to the bus. I have one photo of what the bus used to look like after he got his hands on it the first time around. I don't know where the photo is at the moment otherwise I would post it here. The story go's from him that he actually bought the bus from over here where I live in Marin County, Mill Valley to be exact.

It was a very Original bus when he bought it in the early 80's,still red and brown. He painted it that color scheme , because he said " I can't win any trophies painted it's Original color scheme" the pic I have it is blue and white before all the goofy crap was installed yet, still had bumpers on it,6 leg, etc. It was a Calif. Black Plate bus
